Rhetorical Strategy (HW#4 for 9/20)

Since the Bedford Handbook seems to be as rare as the dodo at the College Bookstore, I've included the reading as links below. Please visit them so that you may complete your reading (Section 3c) for this Wednesday, 9/15. I ask that you print these pages and bring them to class, if at all possible. You will need to save them to your computer and then open them with Adobe Acrobat. Here is the link.

After doing the reading in the Bedford Handbook (p.67-75), answer the following prompt by commenting to this posting below to complete the homework for 9/20.

Argue for or against the use of cellphones in two paragraphs, using a different paragraph strategy/rhetorical device in each. Be sure of head each paragraph with a label that identifies which strategy/device you are employing to argue your point.

Cell phones are the greatest invention ever and I’m sure many would agree. Never the less it makes parents less worried because they can get in contact with a child right away. I remember when I first started high school I didn’t have a cell phone. My parent thought I got out of school at 3 pm which I did but I have to stay back a little later to get my metro card. After time when by and my parent didn’t see me come home, they began to worry, my dad drove all over looking for me and I took the bus home. When I got home I call to find out where they were and they were happy to hear from me. Therefore if I had a cell phone my parents would have knew where I was and what I was doing.

    Description
Cell phones are the best way to get in contact with someone. It’s has many features, text messaging, incoming and outgoing calls, the internet and so much more. Sending a text message is a great way to keep things short and sweet. Making a call or receive a call is also great to hear someone voice. Or just the great feeling of having you computer with you. Using the internet where you want in a convenient little screen.

They came out of nowhere, taking over each person one by one. If one didn’t appeal to a certain person, you can be sure that it would take the liking of another. You might ask what could possibly be so persuasive over our economy, changing our behavior, habits and etiquette around others. Coming in many colors no father that 20ft away from you at all times, whether being used or sold they are everywhere. Small and convenient but compact with all technological components needed to maneuver on the outside world, we have technology at its finest. Moving at a fast pace improving within months at a time this device has been able to replicate itself smaller, faster and stronger each time. Attacking our classrooms, office building and hospitals Americas need to have cell phones are damaging us thus agreeing with the rebels against cell phone use in our personal bubble. Technology may have advanced but socially technology has degraded us.
    Analogy
Cell phones are like drugs, when we finally get our first phone it is similar to your first high. Ultimately when you have your first high you keep with the drug to get the same feeling back. To the disadvantage of drug users you cannot get that same high back, that is why there is a tendency to move on to a new drug or combine them together. My same theory goes for cell phones, I believe when your phone gets outdated and scratched you have a demand for a new phone. When you get a new phone for the second time you reach that high again and treat your phone like a prized possession, over time the same thing happens, the phone become out dated and used. During the use of the phone there are also drug like tendencies, many people who use their phone constantly check the phone for messages or missed calls, and also constant texting is a must with many. Cell phones may seem harmless now but in the end it proves itself to be addicting.

Cellular phones have become vital to many. These days you see children from ages 10 and up walking around with these gadgets. More and more parents are beginning to buy cell phones to keep in contact with their children. Although kids are in school buildings for most of their day, parents feel the need to provide their child with a cell phone for the time spent out in public. I agree with the use of cell phones for this very reason. I feel it is better to be safe than sorry. Cell phones have become a necessity in the event of an emergency. Imagine, one day a child is walking out of school to go to the park, while he is on his way, a gang walk towards him in a violent manner. The boy would use his phone to contact the police to avoid any trouble with the delinquents. Some might say that cell phones are not necessary to have, but I believe that they are.

    Alliteration
Cell phones seem to be surpassingly sufficient with special features. These hand held gadgets have hoard games. They can also keep you busy with other fun and fascinate features such as the internet browser. The internet browser allows you to broaden your knowledge with boisterous bits. Cell phones can be used to past time when you are blase or busy. Therefore, I agree with the use of subsidiary cell phones.

As i sat in the library reading my textbook hoping to accomplish some homework that afternoon, a very loud and obnoxious noise interrupted my reading. The noise was none other then a cell phone ringing. As the kid answered his phone i noticed many of the libraries patrons staring at his complete lack of etiquette, but after a 20 second stare down i prepared to read my book again. And so i began to read. I read that same page for about 3 minutes. The cell phone conversation was too loud for me to comprehend what i was reading. The library is just one of many places ,which should have a band on cell phone use. Libraries are quiet places where people may study without being interrupted. However this becomes impossible when cellphones come in to play.

    cause and effect

We as a society are becoming more and more dependent on technology ,especially on cell phones. Society today is becoming less social as the years pass, and this is due to the Increase in cellular use through out the world. Everywhere you go there will be someone using a cellphone. There is a lack of person to person communication going on . Our ability to communicate in person is slowly deteriorating with texting and cell phone use becoming so popular. This is why cell phone use in places such as restaurants libraries and hospitals should be restricted. There just are certain places where cellular use is just not necessary. People come to these places not to hear chatter on who Michelles exs new girlfriend just kissed. No, we come to these places for peace and tranquility from the every day hustle and bustle of the technological world.

Cell phones help a great deal. About three summers ago I went to visit my family in the Eggharbor Township and Somers Point sections of New Jersey. I told my cousin that I was going for a walk. I immediately caught her attention because she knew I was not to familiar with the area. So she responded , "Would you like me to go with you?" I told her, "I kind of need some time to myself." "Are you sure? I can walk a few steps behind you." "No I am okay by myself. Thanks for offering." She became quiet and thought for a minute, then said, "Okay be careful and pay attention to your surroundings." I nodded my head and headed towards to the door. After walking for about two and a half hours, I realized that it was getting dark. Just as I turned around I could not for the life of me which way I came from, when to make a left, when to make a right, or when to just walk straight. What I did know is that I did not want to call my cousin because I was so determined to take the walk by myself. This was one of the times that my pride did not help me at all. I sat down on the curb, and just as I started to cry I heard my phone ring. I wiped my tears and sniffled a bit, then answered. It was my cousin, my heart began to smile. “Hello,” I said into the phone as I sniffled. She answered with so much love in her voice, “Where are you? I am coming to get you.” “How did you know I was lost?” “Because I know you do not know your way around, but this was the only way for you to learn.” I smiled and told her where I was. I was so relieved.

    Analogy

Cell phones are sort of like best friends. They are there when you need them and are very helpful. When you are in a tight jam, best friends are there to help get you out. They are there to be helpful and to give you advice, guidance if you will. With the way cell phones have evolved, you can bail yourself out of serious jam with the touch of a few buttons. You can call on someone for help no matter where you are. Not to mention that you can find practically anything on Google. If you are stuck on a high way with no one around, you can simply do a search for local mechanics. Phew, you saved yourself from that one. The one undeniable difference between the cell phones and best friends is that once you get your cell phone going you can eventually turn it off.

Cell phones are mostly our communication tools. It is the latest technology to replace walkie-talkies,beepers and house phones. In this century, cell phones are portable and pocket sized. You can carry them with you to almost anywhere. Cell phones allow us to communicate with someone who can be halfway around the world, communicate with someone without speaking (texting), and store a large amount of information (address book). Technology is advancing even further now where there are applications that allow us to play games, take pictures, listen to music, and online connectivity. There are other applications such as a GPS (navigator), instant messaging, facebook, bluetooth, and electronic books. They also include your daily activity needs like a calculator, an alarm clock, a calender, a notepad, a timer, a stopwatch, etc.. Cell phones come in many different shapes, sizes, colors, and styles. Each one is unique, like a personality, and matches its owner.

    Example
Whenever I travel with my family, my parents always make sure that everyone has a cell phone on them at all times and that we have each other’s contact information. Cell phones are a great tool to use to contact someone when someone gets lost. My dad would always say that if you get lost, always contact your mother first, don’t call me. For example, what would we do if we were shopping at a mall and one of us got lost? You pull out your pocket sized phone and call mom. Before cell phones, we would just have to stand there and wait till our parents found us. But that solution would not work if you were on the streets of Time Square and lost a grip on mommy’s hand. Standing there in the middle of the street won’t do anything for you. It would probably just get you killed. With cell phones, it’s more efficient to find your mommy’s hand again. They even have children cellphones in Japan where they can only call one contact which is usually a parent number.

The cellphone is predominantly the most convenient, easy to find, user friendly communication device. Cellphones do not discriminate against race, age, sex, and or intelligence. It is a hand held device for the use of your own god given tool- your hands,or your fingertips to be more precise. It rings, vibrates, and goes silent when ever you need it to. Our very own finger tips have the power to END CALL. It does what ever you want it to do, and there is a wide variety of phones you can choose from. Not only does it help you communicate it serves as a digital camera, music player, calculators and much more. It is becoming more advance in helpful ways as the years progress . Cellphones gives us the ability to talk to others no matter where they are, whether it is a text, call or email. In other words cellphones hand us all or most communication choices at the palm of our hands.

    Compare and contrast

Cellphones are very well much like the computer, similar size to a calculator, and contains flash like a digital camera. They all include screens and a certain type of keyboard. There is a wide variety of all types. Cellphones and computers are both used as communication devices where a camera and a calculator are used when needed. Although cellphones are similar to all these devices, a cellphone has a meaning of its self. The cellphone may contain all or one of the capabilities of these devices, where as the other devices can only serve their one purpose they were put out to do, minus the computer. Computers and Cell phones go hand in hand except that the cellphone is portable enough that you can fit it into your pocket and most cell phones now can be directed by the touch of the finger rather then the press of a button unlike computers.

I never thought our world will have so many technologies in a very small period of time.I still remember the days when I was a teenage girl and cell phones were so seldom to see and very expensive.Today "more than 100 million Americans carry cell phones"(Guernsey). The interesting thing that now we have a debate about using them, some people argue to use cell phones and some people try to discourage many phone users from doing that.Personally,I put two thumbs up for cell phones. What is not to love?Cell phones can even safe lives,be very helpful in emergency situations.I witnessed one incident that can prove it.A few years ago I was coming back home from school.I used to live in a very small and quiet town.A couple children and grown ups were around me walking by.Passing the park area I noticed somebody pretty far falling on the ground, the person fell and did not move.I was a little scared. Then I waited for a grown up and asked him if can check that person.I saw a young lady coming closer to me.Her name was Lisa.I pointed to her a body I saw and then we both quickly came over to it.In a second we realized that it was a woman.Lisa started to check woman's condition. After a few minutes she started to scream for help, that woman was without consciousness, and Lisa panicked and did not know what to do.Then she screamed out loud:"Oh,I have a cell phone,I will call an ambulance for help".She dialed and five minutes later came our life savers. They took a woman in a car and took her to the hospital.Next day I heard about that woman from our older neighbors. The story was that the woman I found in a park fell down, bumped her head and lost consciousness. She was better already.Lisa could not help her physically, but her cell phone saved a woman from my story. Thanks God we have a cell phones!!

    Cause and effect

There are many reasons why I support cell phones in our lives now.First of all,If parents have a cell phones, they can locate their children anytime they want to make sure they are safe. This phone option gives less stress to mothers and fathers. My mother did not have a cell phone when I was little girl,me either. So she was very worried all the time I was out myself or even with my friends.I would not do it to myself when I am a parent later.Second of all, cell phones are very useful for work, especially for business calls. We all know,to get a luxuries in our one life,we need to work hard.A lot of New Yorkers are so busy these days, and cell phone makes life much easier.Without a cell phone business people have to run around, spend more time at work, send letters,do research on computers only. That is why our small and smart devices are so convenient and good for work.Additionally,I would like to add that I consider cell phones, mostly smart phones,as a little computer and a book in one package. If a person does not obtain one,he has to carry a book to entertain or educate himself or a laptop to spend some free time by playing games, having fun or listening the music. If I forget my phone and I need to take a train or a bus ride,I become a bored and unhappy girl.So in my point of view, people can be more safe, happy, successful and satisfied with cell phone than without it.

Cell phones has been invented for quite long now.Cell phones are great way to keep in touch with our loved ones who does not lived closed.Cell phones are great when it comes to emergency, because its easier to get help when you have a cell phone. For example;this one time after class was over,i was on my way to take the bus then i realized i had no more money on my metrocard. Also,i did not bring extra money with meso i could not get a new card. That's when the cell phones comes in useful;i used my cell to call my sister to pick me up.Therefore i have to say cell phones are useful, because if i did not have my cell that day,i don't know how and when i would have get home.
    Cause and effect:
Cell phones are becoming a big part of our society can be a good thing also a bad thing.I agree cell phones are usefull to us most of the time but it can be annoying sometimes. The society are becoming too dependent on their cell phone.Which is a big problem because most people would rather texts or calls someone than meeting face to face with each other. We so used to texting and talkig on the phone that when we around other people we don't know how to act or speak properly.

Cell phone has become a common part for everybody. I have seen people as young as six years old own a cell phone. Nearly everyone has cell phones in this day and age. They have necessity for communication. We can communicate with more than one people at once time with the help of conference. If you are not able to speak directly with the other person, you can leave them a voicemail, send them a text message; send voice and picture message and even videos. Moreover, most cell phones have calendars, note pads, and even access to the World Wide Web. People are using them for an appointment reminders, keeping notes, and reminders for special events and anything else they need to remember. In addition, some cell phones now come with global positioning systems (GPS), to help people find their way to where they are going. Furthermore, in case of an emergency, having a cell phone can help a person to know quickly and allow him to reach distant places quickly and might saves lives.

    Cause and effect

When people use cell phone while on driving then there is a possible chance of an accident. Often we can see that, when drivers on the road are talking on their cellular devices it’s likely they are in another world. They do not get fully concentrate because the conversation distracts them so much that he/she is no longer focused on driving. Which result in a severe decrease of speed, unexpected last minute lane changing, and a possible fender bender? These people are only risking their own lives but also they are endangering innocent motorist too.

Cell phones are one of the best technologies invented yet, it is a way for people to keep in contact with each other whether it is used for business purposes or personal reason. I remember when I was a little younger I was yet to receive a cell phone from my mother but I would still go out places, one day my mother sent me to do an errand for her to somewhere I was not quite familiar with. She gave me specific different to follow to get to where I needed to go, I hopped on the bus and asked him to please inform me to when my stop was approaching he forgot all about me and took me to the last stop of the bus, feeling bad he gave me a transfer, apologized and told me which way to get the bus going back the opposite direction. I began to panic because I could not find the bus stop. There I was lost and phone less I began to cry and search for a payphone with no money left I had no choice but to call my mom from collect. I’m sitting there god knows where panicking and crying she finally picks up and I’m crying to her explaining what happened she begins to tell me to look around and tell me what I saw and when I did she told me the direction I needed to go, I never reached my destination instead I went to a family friends house to waited for my mom to arrive.

    Description
Cell phones are a great piece of device in the technology world today. Phones now a day have many different features such as text messaging, video and picture messaging, instant messaging where you can send a quick note to someone if you don’t want to talk on the phone or to just have a nice friendly conversation with someone. Also having the email feature on your phone is good to because it is a great way to still receive emails for school, work, or etc. Phones come in different ways now from small ones to big ones, colored ones, and they all packed with amazing features. The best feature on phones now is that they are making them 3g so you can quickly be connected to the internet. You can send and receive messages over the Wi-Fi network. Having a camera on your phone is convenient because you can take pictures whenever and easily send it to someone fast. That is why cell phones are very important for this day and age since everyone is wirelessly connected.

  12. Many may argue that cell phones are not useful and that they disturb the environment. Let me ask all of those who agree with this statement, Do you not own a cell phone? Don’t you use them? We all use cell phones, maybe not in the same manner but we all do possess one. We do not leave the house without it nor leave it out of sight. Its stuck to us like glue. It is very useful to have one in many cases. My mother always complains on how technology including cell phones has ruined society and myself. I always argue back and tell her the benefits of having a phone. I tell her; “ If I did not have a cell phone how would you contact me when I am no where to be found?”. I guess she would rather worry. Surprisingly she does not speak when I tell her that because she herself agrees that it is true. There was this one time when I had an argument with my father who was paying my cell phone bill because of my high usage of the phone. This argument lead to handing him my phone and not desiring it back. At the time I was leaving early for school and coming home late after work and my parents did not have any clue of my whereabouts, which worried my mother extremely. Even through she disagrees with cell phone usage, not only did she own a cell phone but wanted me to carry her phone. She wanted to know where I was at and she wanted to be contacted if any emergencies were to occur. At this time I concluded that people do not dislike phones its self but they dislike how society uses the cell phones . So why argue against it when we all look at the bright side it has useful to us in many ways.

There is a negative and positive side of having a cell phone. I agree that the positive side holds more weight than the negative side. In one hand, a cell phone comes in use when you have an emergency. It is very helpful when it comes to either contacting someone or using the web to find your way around the city. For example, when a child is no where to be found a mother has the ability to contact her son or daughter anywhere that they may be. It also comes into play in entertainment ,when one is waiting to be called into a doctors office and you are beating a tetris game. There is the negative side such as the disturbance of the people surrounding you at the moment. For example, if you are in a bus having a conversation with someone on the phone and you are speaking in a high volume. Everyone around you hears you clearly and/or are just annoyed with your conversation. That also brings us to the exceeded usage that some may use a cell phone. For example, when your driving or crossing the street, these acts are placing your life in danger.

  13. Example
Cellphones were created to allow individuals to make use of their phones wherever they may be. As time passed, cell phones became more advance. Many people argue that cell phones are hazardous, but they are also very helpful and therefore should not be banned, but rather restricted, to some degree. In case of an emergency, a parent may be contacted on their cell phone in order to be informed of any issues regarding their child. Parents often work and are not always home to answer phone calls. With a cell phone by their side, they can always be reached.

    Analogy
In Jonathan Rowe's article Reach Out and Annoy Someone, Rowe uses analogy in order to compare cell phones to cigarettes. He says that noise pollution produced from one's cell phone conversation is just as harmful as secondhand smoke produced by a smoker. Although I disagree with this argument, I do believe that cell phones are somewhat similar to cigarettes to an extent. If a person chooses to sit down and begin smoking, you have the right to move to another location or ask this person to move somewhere else. The same goes with cell phone conversations, you don't have to stay there and listen, you can always walk away. Cell phones and cigarette smoke can both cause discomfort to others, but over hearing a cell phone conversation is nowhere near as harmful as inhaling secondhand smoke.

Personally I love cell phones! They are convenient and can be very helpful in many situations; more importantly, in case of an emergency. About two years ago my cousin came from Maryland to visit my mother and me for thanksgiving. The day after thanks giving she told me she was going to the movies with a young man she claimed was an old friend she knew in Maryland who had moved to New York. Me being her older cousin, I did not like the idea especially, because I did not know the young man and moreover; she did not know nowhere in Brooklyn. My cousin persuaded me to allow her to go but still I did not like the idea. She had her cell phone so I said “if you need anything, please call me”. The young man came and picked her up around 6pm the in his car that Sunday evening and off they went. Around 10pm my cell phone rang and it was my cousin, when I picked up, she was crying hysterically. I told her to calm down and explained to me what was wrong. She then started to tell me that the young man abandoned her at the movie theater and left with another female. I asked her the name of the movie theater and she said “Magic Johnson Theater”. I knew exactly where this was so, I quickly got dressed and called a cab. When I arrived, she looked relieved to see me. We then both got into the cab and went home. I was happy that she had a cell phone to contact me. I have no idea what would have happened to her if she could not get in touch with me.

Cell phones are very compact and easy to access when you need to get in touch with someone. These days, almost everyone owns a cell phone. It does not matter your age, race, or gender. They come in a variety of colors, shapes, styles and sizes that are quick to attract. Some phones are tiny and do not even look like phones while others have touch screens. They come with a variety of ring tones, goes on vibrate, or silent if necessary. Cell phones have many features like incoming and outgoing calls, text messaging and internet at your fingertips. They include a contacts list that allows you to store many numbers, a camera and an mp3 player. You have the power to accept or ignore some ones call with just the press or touch of the talk or end button. Cell phones are not just a means of communicating; some has features that may allow you to conduct online banking, streamline music and pictures and to up load and down load documents. As the years goes by, the more developed cell phones will become. Pretty soon we will not need personal computers because the cell phone will be able to do it all.

My Cellphone is like my Best friend. It keeps me in touch with everybody when i need it. It has many features to help me in any given situation. I can check my emails from my phone, the weather, transfer my school reports on Microsoft word, and it always lets me know how to get home if i get lost through its navigation system. It even helps me locate the nearest and best restaurants and places of interest around me. My Cellphone keeps me well organized and reminds me of events that i will participate in the future such as meetings, Birthday Parties, etc. Like my best friend my phone keeps me well informed about everything and i know it would never let me down. I believe cellphones are a great necessity in todays society and i believe that everyone should have a cellphone.

  16. Cell Phone is one of the most popular technologies for everyone. Almost every person has Cell Phone. It is very important for me, because I can communicate with my family through the Cell Phone. I understand the importance of the Cell Phone last year when I got a phone call from my mom who lives is Bangladesh. When she called me I was in the class, and I did not pickup the Phone. After the class I called her and heard that my brother was died. He had a heart attack. He was just 32 years old. My mom was depressed after my brother’s died. From that day I have to call my mom every single day.
I understand sometimes Cell Phone is very annoying but I also agree that it is very important for us, especially when you are outside from the home. It is very helpful in any emergency situation, like if you are lost, if you are in trap or if you need any medical help. Cell Phone has internet access so you can check your email anywhere anytime. Cell Phone is one of the most important parts in our everyday life.

The cell phone is one of the most important devices created in recent history due to the communicational barriers lifted by them and the exponentially increased mobility that people have gained through the use of them. People don't have a reliance on landlines and home phones and therefore can interact with others practically instantaneously. Cell phones allow people to receive assistance faster in emergencies, parents can much more easily stay in contact with their children, and people probably feel safer if they have a cell phone on them than if they do not. Also, the noise complaint is often unwarranted since the use of texting is extremely widespread and usually if someone is talking loudly on a cell phone it is due to the person being in noisy surroundings or the person speaking is just a loud individual regardless of cell phone usage.
    Description
Cell phones have grown to be essential to people's daily lives because the vast array of entertainment derived from them and the various communication possiblities that they provide reove boredom from people's lives during seemingly vapid tasks like waiting in line or traveling on the subway. People can watch videos, movies, play games, e-mail, text, have a conversation, or perform other multitudinous functions. Cell phones make the boring parts of life go by quickly so when you're at the doctor's office you do not have to read a year old issue of some obscure magazine and instead can do something entertaining.

  18. Cell Phones are one of the most popular and annoying inventions of all time. Everyone has a cell phone whether if you're rich or poor. It helps people keep in contact, be entertained, and useful for any other emergencies. I received my first cell phone when i was twelve years old and I understand how important it is. two weeks ago I received a call from my older sister while i was in class. At first I kept ignoring her believing that it wasn't important, but when she called for the third time i knew it was important. She had called to tell me that my little sister was taken to the hospital and that that I should meet them there as soon as I was done with my classes. If i hadn't had my cell phone I would have never known what happened to my little sister.

Cell Phones are are also very annoying when you have to listen to another conversation, but i do agree that it is public and the phones were created for mobile use. Some people should understand that there are limits to what we use or do. Even though there is not a law or something in place there should be an understanding to what we do.

One saturday afternoon I went to Spencer's Gifts and I saw two kids their mother. After she paid for her items, she proceeded to leave and in doing so she forgot her younger child in the store. As she was leaving the store, she received a phone and while receiving the call she left abruptly. After she left I realized that she left her child behind in the store. I ran out of the store and I yelled at the lady who was already across the street to come back and get her infant.

    Example and Illustration

One way cell phones are a positive effect on society is to help parents keep in touch with their children. Parents who work many hours and need to contact their children at all times, therefore cell phones are an essential in many situations.
One negative of having a cell phone is the the noise it creates when people are not aware of how loud they can be. As a resident of New York I tend to hear many conversations due to the lack of social ettiquette.

Having cellphones can be very useful especially in cases where one gets lost. I remember I was meeting up with my cousins at a mall and I did not have a cellphone with me. When I got to the mall, they were not where we planned to meet each other. I was lost and confused as to what to do. I walked around the mall for an hour until I found them walking into a store. This could have been prevented if I had had a cellphone. Finding people is much easier with the use of a cellphone which is why they are such a great invention. There is also GPS on cellphones which helps people find their way around places.

Cellphones might be a great invention but everything has its negatives. There can be detrimental effects of using a cellphone. Many people who use cellphones while driving have greater risks of getting into car accidents. Studies also show that cellphones can cause sleep loss. Lack of sleep affects health and it creates stress. This is mainly found in teenagers who seem to be almost addicted to cell phone use. Not only are cellphones helpful but they are harmful as well.

  21. Narration

One day as I was coming home from work, I got on the q58 bus and as soon as I got on I hear a very loud conversation. As I head toward the back of the bus I hear the conversation becoming louder and more vulgar. When I got to the back of the bus the person began to scream, and when this happened I put my headphones on and I turned the volume up all the way. After doing this I could still hear this obnoxious lady, so I decided to tell her about how loud she was speaking. She replied, "Sorry I will keep my voice down."

    Example

There are a lot of pros and cons of having a cell phone. One con of having a cell phone is that people dont know how to conduct themselves when they are having a conversation in a public area. The person is usually so in to their conversation that they are unaware of where they are. People who are around this person can only look at awe of the lack of manner of this individual.
One pro of having a cell phone is using the device in an emergency situation, especially when it involves an older individual. In many cases when someone is checking up on them or they need assistance. Also when they are unable to reach their home phones, they can be contacted at anytime or any place.

    narration - "Slap the Driver"

so right now im shaking in my boots and so is my heart. And my nerves are shook upand im trying to calm down because i dont want to smack the driver of this car. Here is what happened right before my nerves got shaken up....My friend came to pick me up earlier today, we are having a girls day out shopping. Then we head to pick up our other friends. My friend, lets just call her "the driver" for now, is texting on her cell phone. I dont know who the driver is texting or why. At every light that we approach is another opportunity for the driver to respond to a text. I dont even know how she keeps up because the texts are coming in one after the other. In other words we're at the light after it turns green for about a minute until the rude drivers behind us blow her then she looks up and says "oh". This happends at about all the lights it took to get to my other friends house. I had to keep promting her when to move. Now im in the passenger seat trying not to freak out because she thinks she can text and drive. So finally i say to her "why dont you stop texting"? She quickly lashed out at me and said"Shawna why dont you shut up, just shut up". Then i could'nt help but to laugh to avoid an argument. But nothing was funny about what happened next. We are are on the high way now and her face is down in her lap, one hand on the steering wheel and the other hand the driver is using to text. All of a sudden a car comes in front of us causing her to break suddenly. We all got swung forward about to become apart of the wind shield. We were about an inch from hitting the car. The driver would have had more time to prepare herself to avoid what happened if she was more focused on the road instead of her cell phone. After that happened she had the, its not that serious attitude. it is serious because we couldve got hurt. i was relieved no one was hurt, but still upset at the fact that her and her stupid i phone could of got us hurt or killed. so that why i had to calm down so i wont slap the driver.

    cause and effect

Today, technologies like the cell phone is not only convenient for reaching just about anyone by calling or texting them, it also has features like cameras, internet access, navigation and the list goes on and on. Using thses features often require both hand and a focus on what you are doing. So how in the world does some people manage to complete these tasks and drive all at once? Though cell phones can be a lot of help in different ways, what about when people abuse the use of them? Then it can become the cause of some thing very dangerous. Most cell phones are smaller than a human hand, so basically your cell can go wherever you go. So in that instance it's not a crime to take it for a spin in your vehicle right? Driving and using a cell phone are both tasks of there own, they both also requier attention. For a driver focus is essential. Using and having a cell phone on board can be dangerous, it can quickly grab your attention if it rings and also slow down your reaction time in the possibility of an accident. By the way its also the law not to use a cell phone while driving. But there are some multi-taskers who ignore this law not taking into consideration that cell phone distracton kills over 2,000 people and injures 330,000 a year. Whether you are using one of the cool features on your cell phone like texting or just having a juicy converstion it is dangerous to do such things while driving. It's prohibited, irresponsible and disasterous, just dont do it!!
