Hw #6 for 10/4

Please forgive my tardiness in posting this homework!!! I had thought that I had done so with the many others last Monday. Thank you Amber for reminding me! Here is the prompt for e-journal #6:

Describe, with sensory detail where possible, a fashion trend that you have noticed and participated in during the past three or four years. Where did it begin (if you know), or where did you first begin to notice it? Who were the people to first wear this style? Does this particular fashion help identify a particular group? If so, who or what? Do you identify with them or it? Is there a music genre attached to this group; a set of beliefs; ideals; behaviors or rituals? Devote two paragraphs to this e-journal response, properly citing at least one quotation from Gladwell’s text to support your conclusions.

  1. My poor parents. They have done everything for me when I was a child, especially after my hourly sobbing and grizzling. And when I was seventeen years old,it was a hell for my mother.I wanted every single piece from fashion magazines,I was copying and following my classmates, friends and older girls.I still remember they all were wearing blouses and T-shirts with leopard colors. Some of the girls could afford to buy leopard shoes, boots and hand bags.So from my view, all the girls who are fashionable, cool and rich were in this trend.Wearing that clothing they seemed even more confident, which I liked the best.I did not have any money to buy new clothing and accessories.I was begging my mother to buy me at least a new leopard T-shirt.She refused to do it,thought it was a nonsense and inappropriate attire for a young girl.Today having a part time job as a babysitter,I realized she had a really hard time with me.And back to the story, despite of hundreds of her "NO",I kept and kept asking my mother to get me what I wanted, but I have gotten nothing.I felt very angry and miserable.

After a little while, still dreaming to be a cool and attractive teenage girl,I had my own idea how to stand out from the crowd and be in this particular leopard fashion trend.First,I went to the flea market where things and clothing are more cheaper and sometimes even unusual.I was trying to find something that has common characteristics with leopard.I have gotten very excited when I bought a lot of additional accessories and materials to create a new branch in this fashion. For example,I have found big and small tattoos with leopard and tiger images that I could iron on the clothing. Then I was lucky to find some animal printed pins, clips and stickers to decorate my personal things. It was a hit and it was awesome!I felt very proud of myself, and there is a reason why.In a little period of time I started to see people doing the same thing.Girls were wearing pins on their tops, even when it was considered to be an old fashion before.I guess now my new idea had a contagious effect among young generation and it happened suddenly. In the "Tipping Point" book written by Malcolm Gladwell where the author gives us an example of Hush Puppies fashion trend in 1994,he point out that "...new social forces had some impact started behaving very differently, and that behavior somehow spread..." and the Hush Puppies "...are clear examples of contagious behavior".Thanks to this book I realized that I experienced a Tipping Point when some events change very suddenly and have epidemic characteristics

A fashion trend that I have witnessed and participated in is a type of foot wear called uGGs. UGGs are boots, which keep your toes warm during winter. I began to notice this brand-named footwear in high school. All the girls were wearing them, even when it was way too hot to wear them. I noticed girls who wear uGGs usually wore brand name clothing. UGGs are very expensive and when I see someone wear them I feel like they spoil themselves but not in a bad way; just to look good. It also makes me feel like they have enough money to spend on themselves or they must be rich and maybe just materialistic. I have a pair it doesn’t make me feel rich, just broke for spending so much money on them! Although, they do keep my toes warm.
They are comfortable, casual and easy to slip on, many girls love the fact that there is a variety of colors and styles to choose from. I don’t feel like Uggs are from a particular group of people because every race joined this trend. This trend is contagious, Gladwell states, “contagious, in other words is an unexpected property of all kinds of things […]” [p3]. Anything can be contagious, if a lot of people are wearing it or listening to it best believe everyone is going to get in on the fad. These boots sure did catch my eye and I, just like many other girls caught on to this contagious fad.

A fashion trend has become the status in which someone starts to wear new clothing or style that has not been worn. Fashion is one day in and another it is out. When it comes to trends, colors and style changes seasonally. Back when I was growing up, Nike was a very famous brand and it is still one of the brands that sells most in the United States. Growing up black and white “uptowns” were the must have Nike sneakers. They were the must have’s for your first day back to school outfit, or that birthday outfit of the year. These sneakers was what every child needed. They came in white and black, and high or low. They matched with any outfit and you were known to be the cool kid if you had them on your feet.

“Uptowns” were in fashion for about two decades until it just slowly dissolved and another pair of sneakers came in style and became the new must-haves. Malcolm Gladwell uses the word “ virus” and “contagious” in his article,“ The Tipping Point”, in which greatly stands out. A fashion tend has become a style in which one person begins and slowly becomes a virus that is contagious. In a general aspect you saw many R&B and rappers who wore “uptowns” and that probably was a major reason in which middle class started to “rock uptowns“. Children and adults from of all ages wore “uptowns”. This particular fashion trend was not racist to any culture nor religion. Variety of personalities wore “uptowns” and that is how many people stuck with this fashion trend for so long.

  4. The trend of skinny jeans has become a very popular style today. It first started in London where it was worn by Kate Moss. About a year later America has witness the new trend and adopted it. It’s now one of the most worn denim in New York City by both female and male. One is guarantee to find a pair of skinny jeans in any clothing store one walk into. Many would agree skinny jeans make them look slim and fit.

In the article “The Tipping Point” by Gladwell he stated how the trend of Hush Puppies had become a popular tend. “They infected them with the Hush Puppies “virus”.” he said. Like the trend of skinny jeans. It is worn by everyone that it is become a virus like the fashion of Hush Puppies. Skinny jeans it’s not worn by a specific group but by everyone. It’s on television, ads and so much more. It has taken over the fashion of America denim.

  5. A fashion trend that stands out to me that appears to never get old is the scarf. Each winter I grabbed my jacket, gloves and of course my fashionable scarf. I began to notice that mostly every one wore scarves in the winter about four years ago. This was new to me seeing that I had recently moved from Jamaica. Scarves are amazing; they help keep your neck warm especially if your jacket does not include a hood while enhancing the look of your outfit. They come in so many different colors, sizes, textures, and prints. There are so many scarves that fit different people’s styles and personality, perfectly. Anyone can wear scarves preferably when it is cold, even though some people tend to wear them in the summer time as well. Over the years, I have accumulated twenty-five different scarves. I own more scarves than anyone I know.
Research shows that scarves have been worn as far back as ancient Roman. Romans would use the linen kerchief as it was called at the time, to wipe sweat from their faces. Chinese warriors also wore scarves (wool) which showed there level of authority. Over time the trend started to catch on. Then the French started to wear scarves especially if they were colorful. Scarves also played a role in dry dusty climates or in places where airborne pollutants are present to keep ones hair clean and prevent things from getting in ones face. Religion has also been affected by scarves. For example, Muslim women wear headscarves/ hijab to cover their head and in certain religious groups, their faces. Similarly, the British also wore scarves as a fashion statement. They associated scarves with different football teams. Furthermore, Malcolm Gladwell used the words “contagious behavior” in his article, “The Tipping Point” to describe fashion trends. The idea of the scarf way back in ancient times, spread across the world over time to be worn for different reasons and in different ways and is now a big fashion trend today. Scarves are not associated with any particular group of people. Whether you are Prep, Goth or a Norm there is a scarf or scarves out there for you.

  6. When I was twelve, I moved to a new town and when I first started middle school I didn't know anyone; I didn't even know myself. I dressed how my mother wanted me to dress and listened to whatever music that was played in my house. It wasn't until my freshman year of high school that I started listening to new music and picking up my own sense of style. In high school I participated with the Punk fashion trend. I was, and still am, obsessed with the whole style of clothing and the music associated with it. It was a way for me to express myself through clothing and music. This sense of style originated from London during the mid 1970s, as an anarchic and aggressive movement.

Although many people would love to think that they are “unique” because of the way they dress, the truth of the matter is that there are plenty of other people dressed just like you. Fashion trends are contagious and everyone is subjected to them at some point in their life. In the article “The Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell states, “The people who yawned when they saw you yawn, meanwhile, were infected by the sight of you yawning – which is a second kind of contagion. […] And finally, if you yawned as you read this, did the though cross your mind – however unconsciously and fleetingly – that you might be tired?” This makes me think of how many people unconsciously follow and/or promote trends.

  7. There have not been many trends that I have followed, as to not look like a “clone”. However, one trend I always said, “I like that.” During the summer right after junior high school, I began to notice that a lot of people around me were beginning to get tattoos. I’m not quite sure where this began, but whenever I would hang out with my friends in Brooklyn or Manhattan, I saw a lot of it. I first noticed this trend amongst the “popular” crowd, or what you would call the “trendy” people in SoHo. It does not help identify a specific group of people anymore because now everyone is doing it. I would say I identify with the people that I first noticed because I, not intentionally, was always a part of the “popular” crowd. Music genre? Maybe Pop, R&B, Hip Hop. Now, there is no telling a specific genre of music.
The exact origin of tattoos is not known. However, it has been recorded that tattooing began in Ancient Egypt around the time the pyramids were built. They were placed on the legs of women as a symbolic way to prevent any dangers during birth. The art form was banned in 787 AD. It made a comeback in the early 18th century in the South Seas. It reached America (New York) in the 1900s.
In “The Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell, he says, “[…] think of them as epidemics. Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread like viruses do.” This was a perfect way to describe the progression of a trend, “contagious behavior”. I always wanted a tattoo. Then I began to notice that people were getting tattoos, which pushed me to get one. After I got a few tattoos, my younger sister got a tattoo. Then a lot of my friends started asking me to take them. So here I am, eleven tattoos later and still thinking of ideas, all because of a contagious trend.

  8. Back when i was in 9th grade i noticed a trend that was taking over my high school. The people who were part of this trend were called "sneaker heads". At the end of freshman year i too began to dress like the sneaker heads, wearing 300$ sneakers and 90$ shirts. It was an expensive lifestyle that i enjoyed taking part in. I use to buy and sell sneakers, and with my profits i would buy more sneaker head products. This trend however isn't all that new it originally began around 2001, and very much resembles the early 90's fashions. Such as members only jackets, OG Jordans, and old school looking Nikes. Hip Hop i believe is a type of music that people from this group connect to the most. You see many rappers taking part of this trend such as, Pharrell, Kanye West, and Chris Brown. I stopped taking part in this trend towards the end of senior year. It may have been because i got a car, so i had more bills to pay, but i think it was mainly because i realized that this trend was nothing but a waste of money.

I believe this trend has its strongest roots coming from Manhattan, more specifically lower Manhattan. Soho is the Tower of Babel of fashion. It is where all fashions derive from. One sees many new trends beginning in Soho. In Malcom Gladwell's article,"The Tipping Point" he states how "Hush Puppies had suddenly exploded and it all started with a couple of kids in the East Village and Soho." (page 2). This is one of the many trends that have started in Soho. All over the world one sees many trends, and what one will notice is that many of these Fashions started here in Manhattan.

  9. A trend I have noticed within the last year that people have been following is “silly bands”. Also four years ago a similar trend was followed which was called “sex bands”. Within the last year people wore “silly bands” which were see-through colored and multi-shaped rubber bands. Four Years ago people wore “sex bands” which were tube shaped mute-colored rubber bands. “Sex bands” showed how much experience you had in sex while “silly bands” were just plain silly. Out of the blue people began to buy dozens of the rubber bands and they would tend to wear it up to their elbows on each arm.

I first noticed this trend of the “sex bands” in school and the people that were wearing it first were these “ghetto” girls. In school you were considered “ghetto” if you were from Coney Island Projects and you spoke slang. At first the people who wore these bands were the “ghetto”, but soon it spread through the school. I also first noticed this trend of the “silly bands” in school and I really don’t remember who started it, but I do remember first seeing girl wearing it up to their elbows. I for one did not follow in this trend, because I felt it was waste of money spending it on silly rubber bands. I do not know why people would waste good money on this, but like Gladwell said “the world of the unexpected becomes expected.”

  10. A fashion trend that has become really popular is tights. Tights are made of spandex or nylon and can be worn with virtually anything. This trend is on and off but it never really goes away. In the 90's tights were worn predominately by teenagers. This trend lasted until new fashions came along. Years later, in 2007, runways were showing a trend of tights in their collections. The general public emulated the look soon after in late 2008 to the present. The newest rendition of the trend is lace tights. Though the style keeps coming back, it comes back in a different way.

The use of tights does not really identify with any specific group of people, genre, or interest. It is however, predominately worn by women rather than men. Of course, teenagers are the first to emulate the look and make it popular. On television today, tights are worn by many of the fashionable people on shows with younger cast members. The trend is set by designers who have many followers like these young actresses. With followers, does a trend occur. "How many kids are we talking about who began wearing the shoes in downtown Manhattan? Twenty? Fifty? One hundred--at the most? Yet their actions seem to have single handedly started an international fashion trend"(Gladwell). We are talking about a few fashion designers who set this trend and now so many fashionable people follow it.

  11. A couple years ago, I witnessed a fashion trend concerning the rap/hip-hop culture. This trend was associated with baggy/oversized clothing. Rappers such as; Eminem, Mike Jones, Lil Wayne, Birdman, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Nas, Jay-Z and Nelly. This was a minor cultural revolution. People wore a extra large t-shirts, extra large jeans, and so on. As this trend started it tipping point, rappers began to endorse this “lifestyle”. This fashion style was emphasized in videos as a “cool” way to dress for the younger generation. To adults this was rebellious and a typical social norm. As this went on people began enforcing laws on the issue at hand. For example in Atlanta, Georgia there is a law that limits how low you can wear your pants, with the maximum punishment being 30 day in jail.
Gladwell writes, “Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do, but as with all viruses people are immune and people can be cured. As young middle school adolescent I followed the trend and I listened to the music that encouraged this behavior. As a follower I began to change my ways after a certain time. And now almost everyone I know has grown out of the “gangsta” trend.

  12. A fashion trend I have watched many, not including myself, become interested in is the skaterboy trend. It's really a carefree type of way to dress, with skinny jeans and some sneakers, usually a hat saying something abnormal, or funny, and... the wear their hair like they just don't care. I feel it began back when a music artist by the name of Lupe Fiasco first came out with a song entitled "Kick Push". Lupe, along with other artists such as Pharrell Williams & his group N.E.R.D. as well as rapper Lil Wayne made the sense of fashion seem so easy which is why I think so many people loved it. It didn't cost much to go to H&M and get a pair of skinny jeans, but yu could switch up the style to make it look less like the way everybody else wore there's by getting different sneakers such as converses and vans. I feel people could be more comfortable with this fashion sense because it wasn't as flashy as past trends, but still looked great when pulled of the right way, giving the wearer more confidence.

When I first realized this trend was serious was when I arrived at a school dance in the 8th grade. I remember myself being so jealous over the fact my mom never got me a pair of the trendy new clothes. It really took New York City by storm if you ask me.

  13. A fashion trend in the past three years is people wearing non-Yankee caps in New York. Before, almost all people in New York who wore baseball caps, wore Yankee caps. Recently, other than some well-known teams like the Red Sox, I've noticed people in New York, not tourists, who are wearing caps of eccentric teams like the Marlins, Reds, Mariners, Pirates, Brewers, Padres, etc. I have not extensively participated in this trend and I do not know why someone would other than being nonconforming or perhaps showing a gang affiliation by wearing certain colors, since most of the teams that the people choose have limited prestige and minuscule success. Perhaps, the amount of people who wear Yankee caps has gotten to such an extreme extent that people wanted to rebel by going against the norm. I've only worn a non-Yankee cap once. Seven months ago, I wore my brother's Braves cap on a trip to Manhattan and the only reaction was some middle-aged, obnoxious man on the train telling me that the Braves "suck" and that the Mets are better, to which I responded with a blank stare.
The range of people wearing them differs and I guess it is attributed to rap music. Mostly teenagers and young adults in New York wear them, although I have seen middle-aged women and men wear them as well, in which instance it is most off-putting. What's odd is that Mets caps are only like the fifteenth most frequent baseball cap in New York.

  14. Popular trends tend reoccur after the style has become outdated at the time. A trend that I recollect that is actually current at the moment is the fad of combat boots. Combat boots were worn by people who were considered punk in the early 90’s the combat boots when worn by girls made statement that they were tough taking away their femininity and men who wore combat boots just supported their strong badass life style. If a particular music group were to support this item it would be metal or punk rock music.

I first started to notice this trend again in the beginning of summer, as a very trendy person I notice before they become mainstream. Combat boots really became popular the beginning of fall, this time combat boots worn by girls more femininely. Accessorized with stocking and dresses and coming in variety of colors rather than your average black that was commonly worn amongst individuals in the 90’s. Combat have come back with trendier aspects than before. It to a higher level of fashion leaving the tendency of this fashion item to become very popular and left in the mainstream for falls to come.

  15. A fashion trend that I have noticed and participated in during the past three or four years was the MOHAWK hairstyle. In the 80’s it was one of the most popular hairstyles for a female to “rock”. Another group of people that began wearing the Mohawk before it became a major popular trend were the punk rockers dying their hair black and having their hair spiky and pointed up. As the summer started I noticed a lot of females and males wearing this hairstyle but they added a twist to it. They would add different colors, flat twist, braids, hair designs and even hair extensions. At first the Mohawk identify the punk rockers but now it identifies both the rockers and those who began to dress up as 80’s babies. The Hip-Hop genre began to identify with this hairstyle. As you would hear about the 808 and heart break from Kanye West. The Mohawks are still in but they are quickly fading as you walk around you would see less and less people wearing them. As they would say in the fashion world, “one day it’s in the next day its out”. And that’s exactly what’s happening to the Mohawk until a couple years pass and it’s back out again.

In the tipping point by Malcolm Gladwell he speaks about the fashion trend of hush puppies and how the reappeared and became a fashion phenomena. The trend of the hush puppies became known as an epidemic because of how quickly it came to be the most fashionable thing to wear. Just as the Hush puppies became a phenomena so did the Mohawk everyone wanted this new fresh hairstyle. “They infected them with the hush puppies virus”(gladwell). And now everyone was infected with the Mohawk virus. Hush puppies became so popular because of a couple kids wearing them in downtown Manhattan. These kids weren’t trying to promote the use of the hush puppies, they were just wearing to wear it and to maybe be different from others. But people took it as the new fashion trend and they wanted to be a part of it. Even fashion designers wanted their piece of the hush puppies success. Many fashion designers began adding them into their fashion shows and expensive stores even famous people began wearing them. The classic American brushed-suede shoes once unpopular made a tremendous comeback but as time passed so did the use of them. It is only a matter of time before the hush-puppies are back out.

  16. Fashion is always changing, slightly elusive, and extremely seductive. It has strong influence on the attitude and action of people. It has the power to transform an image and make a social statement. It refers to what accords with conventions adopted by polite society or by any culture or subculture. A time when long hair was a fashion but these days, long hair is again in fashion. So we can say that fashion is a variable that alter time to time. We can not say that fashion of one country is easily acceptable to another country. Each country has its different trend, brands, style etc. Four months before, I went to my country India. I wanted to buy some Indian outfits. There I saw that most of girls were worn ‘’umbrella style pajami suit’’. Moreover, I observed, that kind of style in Indian TV serial too. The actress of TV serials was worn pajami suit. Therefore, I went to store and purchased five outfits of different colors and styles with light embroidery. This style is not a new style because when I was 3 years old, it was in fashion. Now again, it has come.
In the article ‘’The Tipping point’’ by Gladwell, he says ‘’ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do.’’ If somebody is infected by any virus then it can be easily spread to others. I want to say that fashion is just like a virus which spread among people very quickly. Media has a significantly role to influenced people. When I watch TV shows, I do always notice about latest trend and style and then try to have new style of clothing.

  17. As years go by, fashion trends come and go. Some trends stay longer than others. Fashion trends vary from the different types of brands to styles to colors. For instance, one fashion trend I have noticed in the past year was the Ugg boots and black tights. Ever since the winter of 2009 started, I've seen girls wearing black tights and Ugg boots. This fashion trend has spreaded from one girl to another. This certain fashion trend does not necessarily identify a particular group of people. This fad does not have any reasoning behind it, it's just a fashion craze that looked hot and was passed on because of personal liking. Uggs and black tights are still being worn today and will probably be around for a little while more. Since the winter is coming back around, we will be seeing these "fashionable" tights with Uggs.

In the text, "The Tipping Point," Gladwell describes trends to be contagious like viruses. He explains this analogy by saying viruses spread from one person to another, as do certain trends and fads. In his selection, he states, “Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do, but as with all viruses people are immune and people can be cured" (Gladwell). Gladwell explains these ideas, products, messages, and behaviors to be contagious when he talks about yawning. He goes on to say, when one yawns and someone else sees, they also yawn, and if someone sees that person yawn, the one to witness it also yawns, and so on and so on. This example supports his ideas of trends being contagious.

  18. Lately I have noticed more females have been cutting their hair. I’m not saying anything is wrong with this but there has been a short hair cut trend. Specifically I’m talking about a few styles I see catching popularity. One of them is the mohawk , where the sides of the hair on the left and the right is shaved off leaving a row of hair only In the middle. Both men and women are doing this style. Some females shave off one side of their heads. The bob hair cut is also something that I see often. At one point I wore short hair myself . I cut my hair because I liked the style and thought I needed a change. I loved my short hair but not for too long because I’m growing it back now.

These hair cuts are not any kind of new styles. They were also popular back in the days . I don’t know who or where it started from but people of every color and texture hair are doing these hair styles. They are not limited to any specific group or people. Some pop singers like Rihanna, Kalis and Cassie rocked these styles putting these hair styles back on the map. Some females add color to their hair which is another style I often see. I used to think it was all about long hair before I cut my hair, but I said to myself, dammit hair grows back. Malcom Gladwell author of “The Tipping Point” said, “we are trained to think that what goes into any transaction or relationship or system must be directly related, in intensity and demention, to what comes out.” (pg.6). So to see famales cut their hair really short even bald is interesting . I like to think hair should look good, but not define a persons beauty.

  19. When I was in high school, one trend that stuck out a lot was baggy clothes and big shirts with a pair Timberland. This trend became very popular fast and it was a trend that has stuck around still. I still many people with this trend, but not as it was in the past. Out of the whole outfit of this trend, the Timberlands cost the most. Tims, as the they were called for short, were quite expensive cost anywhere from Sixty dollars to more then a hundred dollars. I’m not hundred percent sure where this trend started, but I would see it in music videos and people around school wearing it. In my school, the first people with whom I saw this trend of style were the people in my grade and the grade above. The group that it identified were people who were into the rap genre of music. The ones who liked this genre, would dress like the singers to mimic them and there styles.
“Radical Change is more than possibility.” This quote from Gladwell’s The Tipping Point, fits well with my trend. This trend came in out of nowhere and once it set in, it changed how people dressed drastically. Everyday, more and more people would get into this trend in my school and once I was outside, I would see the same too.

  20. Fashion depends on the culture and the expectation of the society. A fashion trend that came about in the recent couple of years in Indian fashion is Shipon Saree. Saree is a traditional Indian outfit. It is twelve feet by two and half feet single piece of clothe without any cut or stitches. There are many types of Sarees such as, jamdani, shipon, katan etc. I like the shipon saree because of the style and the quality. These Sarees are different from the others because it is very soft and light.
Usually all new Saree styles evolve through the movie Stars. I started wearing this Saree because the movie stars influenced me. These fashions identify the Indian culture. In the article The Tipping Point, Gladwell, stated, “ Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do.” Shipon Sarees also spread like virus in new generation. The young children, who came in America, lost their interest to wear cultural outfits. When the Shipon Sharees trend started, Indian teenage girls began to wear the Shipon Sarees.

  21. Skinny jeans were invented back then, I believed in the eighties, nineties. That was the trend everybody was wearing the. However, two or three years ago they made their come back. I remember going to school and seeing them on almost every students guys or girls. They looked really nice with them and you can style it anyway you want to fit your style. Since then, I’ve only worn one type of jeans, I had thrown away all my wide legs jeans and replace them with skinny jeans. They’re very fit and comfortable they go nice with vans and long boots. They also came in every colors and textures.
When those jeans came out a lot of pop or hip hop teenage groups were wearing them too. I remember the “New Boyz” teenage boy group they came out with the song you a jerk. I remember them wearing skinny jeans and they were doing the dance called jerking. Almost every kid were doing this dance and wearing skinny jeans. “Hush puppies had suddenly become hip in the clubs and bars of downtown Manhattan.” Just like the hush puppies skinny jeans became popular again and everyone was wearing them. The society become infected with “skinny jeans” virus (Gladwell).I’m not really sure who started the trend again but I’m glad that person did.

  22. There are many girls and boys that are into fashion. They like to look at a fashion magazine or a fashion show. I am not in that category. Sometime I like to know what the latest fashion is, but I just don’t really follow it. It is not who I am. About a year or two, I saw this boots that reach up to your knees , the knees high and as they call it the hooker boots (the boot with high heels), which I like. At that time I did not know the boots were in or how it started. I had got the boots and started to notice that most ladies have the boots I had but in different styles. I really didn’t mind because I was wearing it for warmth, comfort, style, and for me to look good. These boots is not in any particular group. Any females could wear it. It just boots that we, as females, like to wear so we could look good and/or just be comfortable. There is no music genre, beliefs ideals, behaviors or rituals in this trend.
It just that we, the female, like to wear these articles of clothing so we can look good, or for some to impress people. We see another female have something that look good, we would like to have the same things. We have to have it or we might think we need it. It like Gladwell had said in his essay, The Tipping Point, it is contagious.
